We usually live in our summer house in South of Sweden during the summer, so our house in Stockholm is empty, and therefore we can be quite flexible. Looking for an exchange 1-2-3 weeks, where you can be very flexible with arrival and departure from our house. |
Large family home, Stockholm - Sweden
We are a family of four, Erik and Annie together with our two children Carl (7) and Sam (5) who are looking for exchange for the summer 2025 or perhaps a shorter exchange spring 2025. We have had done exchanges in Netherlands 2023, and France 2024 so this will be the third time exchanging our home, but before this we have had a long experience with Intervac from Eriks family, who had their first Intervac home exchange in Switzerland 32 years ago ( summer of 1991) and have done more than 30 exchanges since.
The house, a modern large family home built in 2016, is situated in a typical suburbian area in Stockholm, about 25-30 min commute ( 20-25 by car) to the city center of Stockholm. The area is very family friendly without any traffic, a small playground on our doorstep and several activities for children in the area.
The house has four bedrooms. The master bedrooms with a King size bed, a guest room with a Queen size bed, Carls room with 2 x standard beds and Sams room with a standard bed. Two full bathrooms and one extra WC, one on each floor. The total area of the house is 191 m2.
A couple of small supermarket are available in the close proximity (< 1km) while nearby city center, Vällingby (2.5km), has many shops and small restaurants. There are lots of nice green areas around Vällingby, along sweden largest lake Mälaren with our closest beach being only 4km away. In the area there are several large shopping Malls, such as Barkaby outlet and Mall of Scandinavia with it’s 224 stores. And of course - the city center of Stockholm is only 13km away ( 20-25 min by car, 25-30 min by public transport).
Stockholm - the capital of Stockholm with 1.000.000 inhabitants. Here you have everything from the classic amusement park gröna Lund, the outdoor museum Skansen to the Royal castle, an amazing food scene with numerous amazing modern restaurants in all price ranges, all kinds of shopping and of course Gamla Stan - The Old town of Stockholm known for its narrow cobblestone alleys in between the colorful buildings dating back to the sixteen hundreds.
The area around Stockholm is known for beautiful nature along the baltic sea, and the main attraction is Stockholm archipelago with it’s 24000 islands. The archipelago is easily accessible by a network of boats, and it’s possible to experience it both on shorter day trips or staying overnight on one of the cozy B&Bs on the islands.
For the more adventurous explorers, kayaking is possible from several places in the archipelago, and to camp overnight on your own deserted island is possible thanks to the Swedish law “Allemansrätten” stating that anyone is allowed to camp in the nature for 2 nights, even on privately owned land.
Local transports
It is easy to travel by car in Sweden since the roads are very good and the traffic is low. However the city of Stockholm is designed with pedestrians in mind, so we recommend using public transport getting to and around the city center. The local bus stops is about 200m from the house, and you have buses about every 10 -15 minutes connecting to either the train or the subway into the city center. Using a single card for public transport it’s possible to go on all trains, buses, underground and even some boats taking you around the city.
Seeing more of Scandinavia
If you’re interested in visiting other Nordic countries you can go by overnight-cruise from Stockholm to Helsinki, the capital of Finland, Tallinn - Estonia or Riga - Lithuania. The cruises normally leave Stockholm in the afternoon, arriving in the new country by morning the next day. Spend the day sightseeing before returning to the boat by nightfall. There are an abundance of cruises, and hence they are very affordable.
The express train takes you to Copenhagen - Denmark in about 4:45h, or Gothenburg - Sweden in about 3h. Hotel packages are available to reduced price in the summer period in Sweden and Denmark.
Our closest international airport Arlanda is 30km away.

Our Neighbourhood
Nearest Airport: Stockholm/Arlanda Airport - 36 km
Our house is situated in a very quite, calm and family friendly suburbian part of Stockholm city. Nearby we have several small playgrounds for kids and a couple of smaller grocery stores (1km away) while our closest center with some shops and restaurants is Vällingby, about 3.5km away. Stockholm is a city on islands so one is never far from the water, and there are places to swim everywhere, but our favorite one - Kanaan is about 5km away.
The city center of Stockholm is about 13km away, and easiest reached by public transport ( Driving in the city center of Stockholm is just a hassle). The bus 300m from our house leads leads directly to Spånga (6 min ) and from there you'll have a commute train leaving every 10-15 min to city center. It's 2 stops (11 min ) to Odenplan, and one more stop (14 min ) to the central station. Going to Vällingby (6min bus the other direction) and catching the subway is also an option.
In the city center of Stockholm you'll easily get around by subway, tram and buses and commute passes valid on all kinds of transportations ( including some boats) are available for 24h, 72h & 7 days.
In Stockholm you'll have an abundance of Shopping, restaurants, our city center amusement park of Gröna Lund and numerous museums suitable for kids. The interactive Abba museum, and the huge technical museum are among our favorites. A must is also Skansen, Stockholms outdoor museum and nordic zoo which is a lovely way to spend a sunny summerday.
Around Stockholm you'll have beautiful nature with Stockholm Archipelago being the main attraction. Easiliy accessible by different boats, and Sweden have a law, "everyones right to nature" it's legal two camp anywhere in the open nature.
If you want to go further away you'll have the old towns of Sigtuna and Uppsala, the modern VR enhanced indoor water park in Västerås, or why not take a cruise and visit the island of Åland, or Helsinki, he capital of Sweden too? Cruises to Helsinki are very cheap and easy, where a normal cruise with 2 nights onboard and a day in Helsinki will cost around 100-150€ for a family of four ( excl food ).

About Our Family
We are a family of four, Erik who works within IT on a digital agency in Stockholm and and Annie who works in IT at a research institute in Stockholm. We've been married since 2015 and together we have two sons: Carl, born in December 2017, and or youngest baby Sam, born in August 2019. We also have a cat named Charlie who roams freely in the neighborhood. Charlie is bottlefed as a kitten, which means he is super cuddly and want to be patted all the time. During summer he normally lives at Eriks moms cabin in Skåne.
In our spare time Erik enjoys scubadiving and cooking elaborate dinners, while Annies enjoys sports, and mainly floorball which is amongst swedens biggest sports, it's best described as indoor hockey. Carls biggest hobby dinosaurs, and space, while Sam loves all kinds of machines. Our main shared passion is traveling and food, and together we have done several longer trips around the world.
