Tuncurry, Australia
House in Tuncurry, Australia
Tuncurry is a seaside town. Our home is a three-bedroom brick cottage - about 40 years old. One bedroom has been set aside as a study. The main bedroom adjoins a bathroom with shower and bath as well as a separate toilet. A second shower and toilet are situated at the rear of the garage. There is an entertaining area with small kitchenette at the rear of the house. We have renovated the interior since taking up residence and recently added a large covered patio. The kitchen has been completely replaced. It has a dishwasher, microwave oven and wall oven. The house is less than 1 km from the Post Office and shops and not quite 2 km from the lake and beach. The ground is very level. All the walkways are flat and the walking is easy. The house has air conditioning.

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
Our home is located in a quiet area just 2 km from spectacular beaches and lakes. Newsagent, movie cinema, post office, supermarket, pharmacy etc within walking distance (10-15 minutes). Larger shopping centre approximately 10 minutes by car. There are a number of beaches and other swimming areas within a 15 minute driving radius. Tuncurry/Forster is a popular tourist destination but is home to many "locals" all year round as well. There are dolphin and whale-watching boat tours at various times throughout the year. Boats, kayaks and other vessels can be hired. There are a couple of golf courses close by as well as a driving range. There are a number of good fishing spots (beach, lake, rock, boat). Please note, fishing licences are required but are cheap and easily acquired. The area is dotted with lovely parks, free BBQ facilities, a skate park and several cafes and restaurants.
Tuncurry is a small coastal town with many tourist attractions. There are a lot of places suitable for swimming including surfing beaches and quiet waterfronts. There are many fishing opportunities - river and ocean trips are available. A number of national parks - where it is possible to go bushwalking - are within easy driving distance of Tuncurry.
Sydney is only a pleasant four hour drive by car.
Besides the beaches and lake system, there is an indoor swimming complex with a gym, sauna, spa and heated pools. Small boats can be hired on an hourly basis (no licence required). A motorcycle museum (at Nabiac) is another of the many local tourist attractions.
A great site to visit for information about the area is www.greatlakes.org.au.

We have been married since 1972 and have had three children. We have two adult married daughters, Heather and Rosalie. Our son, James, died in 1998, aged 21.
We both retired from full-time work at the end of 2004 but still do casual work and are very involved in our Church and community.
Ross was a High School teacher, trained in English and History, but specialised in Modern History and Studies of Religion. He enjoys writing and has published a textbook for Studies of Religion and a family history book.
Philippa was a primary school teacher. She taught students with special needs (learning difficulties as well as gifted and talented) during the last few years. Her students were aged between 6 and 15 years. She also taught infant school music.
We have been living in Tuncurry since retiring at the end of 2004 and enjoy the casual, easygoing atmosphere of the town. Ross is an active member of various committees, including President of the Murray Clan Society of New South Wales. Philippa is an active member of a ukulele band.
We enjoy travelling, but also enjoy meeting other travellers and hosting them in our home. We'd love to meet you!
