About the neighborhood

Our house is located in a small artist/wine village on a hill overlooking the vinyards, the river Rhine, France/Alsace and Switzerland/Basel. On clear days you see the Alpes. People like to call our area "the Tuscany of Germany".
The area is unique as 3 countries are meeting (the so called "3 countries area") and people are freely crossing the borders every day without any difficulties. Actually, from our house you are able to walk along the vinyards and end up in Switzerland without even seeing a borderguard. We live 5 km from the borders of Switzerland and France and are 8 km away from the City Hall in Basel/CH with its more than 800 years old houses. The city was an old Hanse-Town founded by rich merchants and is extremly beautiful.
The activities here are plenty : Horseriding in the vinyards; skiing in winter, visiting one of the many hot springs in order to cure your deseases or just having fun (our area is of volcanic origin); hiking in Alsace/France, the Black Forest/Germany or the Alpes/Switzerland ; swimming in the Rhine or the lakes you find in the forests or in CH; or choosing between the two 18 holes golfcouses only 10 km from our house. And for the "kids" we have the 'Europapark', the biggest fun park of Germany 1 hour by car from here.
Because of the big wineproduction you will always find a festival in one of the many villages during the harvest. Each village celebrates at least 2 festivals, one when the old wine has to leave the winecellars and one when the new wine is getting ready.
The infrastructure is good from the village below with busses taking you to Weil am Rhein, Lörrach or Basel/CH from where you can take trains to almost everywhere.
By car you have 1 hour to Luzern/CH at the 'Vierwaldstaetter See (where the hero Wilhelm Tell "used to live") and to Zuerich, the financial center of CH. In 50 minutes you can drive to Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Switzerland is not bigger than that you can reach almost any area within 3 hours.
In France you have 1 hour to the beautiful city of Colmar, 1 and 1/2 hours to Strassbourg with the European Parlament, or you just cross the border into Alsace and enjoy the "wine-route" with its many old villages, castles or restaurants offering good french food and wine.
The new international airport "Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse" is situated 10 km away from our house.
The whole area is getting more and more integrated and every summer we have a musikfestival lasting almost 2 month involving all 3 countries. And last not least:
In February/March you can enjoy the famous "Basler Fastnacht", a newly declared UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE event.
Our holiday apartment in Berlin (DE9162) is also available.

We both enjoy working in the creative field. We do a lot of travelling all over the world, and when we are at home in Weil am Rhein, we like hiking and bicycling in the vinyards, along the Rhine, in the Black Forest, or visiting Basel/CH for exibitions and theater. For our health we do visit the hot springs in the area.
When in our holiday apartment in Berlin (DE9162), we enjoy the life of a big exciting City, the numerous museums, exibitions, cinemas etc.. We love bicycling along the canals and eating in one of the many restaurants this city offers.
We are NON-smokers.
There is TV but no Internet connection in our holiday apt.
